Ever wonder what the difference between a sweet potato and a Yam is?
I was actually thinking about this tonight and since I started the very strict Pritikin Diet, it was important for me to investigate this and what I found out was pretty shocking.
A yam is not actually a potato.
Let me explain.
A Yam is the common name for some species in the genus Dioscorea (family Dioscoreaceae) while a Sweet Potato is actually Ipomoea batatas.
So what does this all mean?
Well, nothing to be honest, but it does answer my question and can help you win a bar bet.
In fact, did you know that the cantaloupe we eat in America is actually not a cantaloupe but a musk melon?
Once again, this won’t help you out when you go to the market, because you will sound like a douche bag if you ask where the Musk Mellons are, however, this might help you score a girl at Whole Foods come to think o it.
So here is the scenario:
You are at Whole Foods when you see a girl that looks like this model below.
She turns to you and says, “Hey, do you know where the Sweet Potatoes are?”
You turn to her and say, “Sweet potatoes or yams?” and she says, “What’s the difference?”
That’s when you calmly explain the difference, and she is so impressed that she asks you if you want to come home with her and eat Cantaloupe off her naked body.
You then tell her that it is technically impossible, because you can only get cantaloups in Europe but that you would be happy to slurp Musk Mellon off her stomach.
That’s when she thinks you are a little too smart for her and leaves you with only the sight of her amazing bikini tush as she walks away.
