There is mounting evidence that the Android platform is for black people.
I did not make this up, but I want to explore this a bit further and show you how it might actually make sense.
While I have been called the Hottest Guy on Twitter and the Hottest guy on Facebook , not many of you may know this, but I am what some people might call a Website Guru.
Anyway, I was reading an article today about Andriod 2.0 and some of the features it has. (for those of you who don’t know, Android is Google’s version of a cell phone platform. Kind of like Backberry or iPhone)
At the end of the article as always there are comment.
I kept reading.
There were some comments about battery life and such and then I came across this one.
“Even though the android will probablly be a better alternative to all the broke ass niggas” Funny you should say that, because T-Mobile’s huge here in the SE. One of the first things I noticed about Android phones when I got into them was that a TON of black people down here love them, are all into rooting them and whatnot.I haven’t noticed that many, or any, of them are “broke ass.” They can afford spendy phones and data packages, and that’s good enough money for me, even if isn’t for some asshat. But, you know, it’s not like black Americans have a history of tastemaking when it comes to phone gear or anything. (source boygeniusreport.com/2009/10/16/android-2-0-screenshot-walkthrough/)

What?
How the hell did race get injected into an article about cell phones.
Now I became curious.
I googled “black people android phones” and then I hit the mother-load.
Apparently it is a known thing that the G1 cell phone is for black people.
Not only that, but so was the sidekick.
Well, now I started really wondering how could that be.
Then it hit me.
Credit.
See, AT&T has a strict credit policy with high deposits.
Verizon has even higher.
So, what does this mean.
This means that if someone with bad credit wants a cell phone, then they either have to pony up between 500-1000 dollars just for a deposit, or be forced to go with either T-Mobile or Sprint. (I personally have Sprint and love it ** Full disclosure)
Anyway, up until June when the Palm Pre came out Sprint did not have a signature phone, however T-Mobile did.
They were the first ones to get the Andriod phone.
So, what is my hypothesis?
The reason why people think that G-1 fans are black is because they are.
Let me be clarify.
I am not saying that the g1 is for black people.
I am saying that the g1 is for black people with bad credit.
You wouldn’t be able to stereotype iPhone users since they come in every race, religion and sex.
Sprint didn’t have a signature phone till the Palm Pre and then you could definitely stereotype Palm Pre users and 30 something nostalgic palm fans who didn’t want to be roped into an AT&T iPhone contract.
Verizon still doesn’t have a signature phone.
That now leaves T-Mobile.
I would disagree with the stereotype that black people like the sidekick as I tend to find that slutty hot teenagers (and young twenty somethings) LOVE the side kick.
So, now we get to the G1 Android phone.
First of all, if you look at T-mobile’s coverage map, it tends to do well in places that have minorities.
Meaning large metropolitan areas.
So, if we look at a “large metropolitan area” like Los Angeles we get this.
Gay people / trendy people / idiots have iPhones.
Corporate types have Verizon or AT&T (which until last month did not have an android phone)
I have Sprint.
Hot Slutty Teenagers and Porn Stars have the Sidekick.
This leaves black people with the G1 android phone.
Now, before you go out and say that this is racist, please note that numbers don’t lie.
(though also please note that I have no facts to back this up)
Finally, while I am saying that black people use the google phone, in actuality this is a compliment.
See, REAL ghetto black people have BOOST Mobile.
